The Walking Dead

Well, it’s Halloween season and as I was driving down a neighbor hood street I saw some decorations. One in particular caught my eye. It was a sign on the door that said, “Dead Inside”.  I thought to myself, how many people there are who are “dead inside.” They are actually, the walking dead. Yes, we are all breathing and moving, but there is more to us than our physical being. We have a body that has a soul and spirit. Our soul is our mind, emotions and will. I believe we are born with a spirit but it’s not yet been made alive by the power of God’s grace.

God told Adam and Eve they would surely die if they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.
It wasn’t the knowledge that would separate them from God but the disobedience. Up until that point they had fellowship with God and God’s glory clothed them. Their spirits were alive with God’s presence. After they sinned against God they became dead. God didn’t mean they would die physically, they died spiritually. The Fall of man was born. Everyone born since that time are born with a dead spirit. The sin is what separates us from God.

This is the whole reason Jesus came, to save us! Because of Adam and Eve’s sin, we are born sinners. We are born in a hopeless state! But the Bible says in Romans 5:8,  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus said He came to give life to the full!  John 10:10, I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].  We tend to mistake the verse for meaning money, possessions, material things, but Jesus is meaning if we trust and believe in Him, the power that raised Him from the dead physically will raise us from the dead spiritually.  He told Nicodemus that a man has to be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven. John 3:3, Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” He is meaning our spirit has to be born again.

We are born physically then sometime in our life we have to be born again spiritually if we want to see the Kingdom of God. Jesus’ blood is the sacrifice sufficient to wipe away the sin that keeps our spirit dead. This is so because God made it that way. Before Jesus, the people had to sacrifice animals for their sin, but God made a way once and for all through Jesus. God chases after us through our life to receive His gift, His son, Jesus. Because He loves us, He has given us free will to choose. He doesn’t want to make us worship Him because then it wouldn’t be real love from us. When we choose to receive Jesus as our savior and Lord, we are choosing to love God back. When this regeneration of spirit happens, we can’t help but love Jesus!  When we are made alive in our spirit, everything looks different, we are now seeing from God’s perspective. We are no longer the walking dead, but walking in the spirit. The Holy Spirit now lives inside us.  Romans 8:11, But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Come to the real land of the living, the Kingdom of God. There we will live forever, together with our Creator.
