The Changes In Me Four Months Later

WOW! Well, I have really had an awesome past month walking with the Lord! What stands out to me is reading my book from Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts. This book has been the answer to my yearning and longing of wanting something but not really knowing what. I wanted a deeper relationship with God and Jesus and this book has been the answer. Doing and living what she talks about has changed my life! Counting the things I love has caused me to pay attention to my life and realize God’s presence with me. I have discovered new things because of this. I wrote more in-depth about this here. Because of this book and how she talked about taking photos of her world I tried this but it didn’t work for me. What has worked for me is I have rediscovered my ability to color and draw. I had been noticing how people write scripture or sayings along with drawings or the lettering is different. I ordered a Bible called My Creative Bible which has the pictures already drawn for you to color. I discovered there is a new up and coming thing called Bible Journaling. This Creative Bible has 400 drawings and also wide margins to do your own. While waiting for the Bible I got a coloring book with scriptures and pictures to do until I get the Bible. Well the other day I got a suggestion in my e-mail about a book called Whimsical Lettering. I checked it out and discovered that what I have been wanting to do is called Hand Lettering! I got the book and I now have 17 drawings in an art journal I have made! I couldn’t believe I could draw! Joanne Sharpe, the author of Whimsical Lettering, leads you through the beginning stages. She says you have to find your font and I thought that was really neat. I have already found mine! I will post an example of what I have done so far! I am so excited about this discovery that I feel like a kid again about life! Not only that but I got a schedule from the Community College for Spring in the mail and I was lead to see if they had any classes on Hand Lettering and they did! So yesterday I signed up! I am really looking forward to the class and getting better at this art. That is what it is, learning how to make your letters art and I’m doing it for God! This is where I am today, in a happy place! I have been faithful too doing my Lent devotion and now I can’t go without doing it. I am experiencing God all the time like I wanted! He is in everything in my life! It is awesome! Here are a few of my drawings

Lent Week 5 Fasting Day 25

In Isaiah 58:1-14, God talks of the people’s idea of fasting which isn’t His idea. He then gives examples of what fasting looks like to Him. He doesn’t say to “give something up” but to give to other people. To make burdens light on others, feed them, clothe them, help them. Then He will be with you and help you and your light will shine among the darkness. Keep the Sabbath holy and delight in the Lord and don’t pursue your own interests on that day.

When we help people with the right motives God blesses us. If we don’t particularly want to do these things but override the flesh and do them knowing we are doing them for God then it becomes fasting. Romans 8:6-11,  The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[b] his Spirit who lives in you.

Lent to Repent

Day 25

The scripture reading today is Romans 8:12-17. It’s talking about our sinful nature and if we have the Spirit of God living inside us we will be able to overcome the sinful nature. We are no longer slaves to it. With God’s Spirit joined to ours we become children of God.

Ann says: Today we will practice our faith- because we will practice joy. Practice thankfulness. Practice smiling, practice Counting Gifts. We will repent of forgetting we are the Resurrection People.

The scripture reading sheds new light on what God calls fasting. I see that what He considers fasting is “giving up” our way and living His way. Living His way goes against our nature but if His Spirit is truly living in us and guiding us we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. We can live holy as He is holy. This is how we do it.  1 Peter 1:16, For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” Giving up our sinful nature ( doing it our way) and doing life His way is what makes Him glad.

Day 21- Go about doing good as Jesus did.

Day 22- It’s the sin God hates!

Day 23- True beauty comes from a clean heart that sees God

Day 24- Have faith Jesus is the Truth

Day 25- Fast from your sinful nature

A Spiritual Lesson From Alice In Wonderland

Back in 2010 I began reading Alice in Wonderland after seeing the movie. The movie jumped out at me with all kinds of spiritual insight! I want to share some lines from the book that spoke to me along with the meaning I got from it that the Holy Spirit revealed to me.

Alice In Wonderland: For you see, so many out of the way things had been happening lately that Alice had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible. Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out of the way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way. Dear, dear! How queer everything is to-day! And yesterday things went on just as usual. I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night? Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle.

I want to share that when I received Jesus that these things started happening to me and they still do! I actually get depressed if nothing is happening. The times when I don’t recognize God in my life. When I don’t see Him, through various ways, I get sad. My life has no meaning, no purpose if I don’t connect myself with the Holy Spirit. I cannot and do not want to live without Jesus’ presence in my day to day life. Alice also said to think of 6 impossible things before breakfast. They can be possible through Jesus Christ! Stay on the path! There is a predestined path formed by God for you to walk in. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.

Destiny is real if you choose it. Ephesians 2:10, For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. Our lives are predestined by God as long as we are walking the path God has planned for us. That path of God is planned by Him for us to make us a good and prosperous life. When we choose another path, the one we form, we then open ourselves up to Satan to take control of our life. This leads to destruction and ruin.

God does promise that if we get off the path, just as Alice did in the movie, that He works everything out for our good. Romans 8:28, And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. Keep loving God, putting Him first and growing up in Jesus and you will be back on the path for your life!
