Lent Week 6 Day 35

My readings for today are about hope in this moment and hope to come when we will be face to face with Jesus one day. Jesus gives us hope for now in this life by walking with us day by day and we have hope to be with Him in the New Earth because the Bible tells us so. With our hope being in Jesus we can not fail and we have nothing to fear. This reminds me of the Christmas song Winter Wonderland when it says: ” to face UNAFRAID the plans that we made, walking in a winter wonderland.” We are unafraid when we know we are walking in the plans God has made for our lives. We are walking in His wonderland with Him by our side and there is nothing to be afraid of.

Day 35

Scripture for today is Matthew 7:1-5 and it’s telling us to not judge others. We are all the same in God’s eyes. Don’t be a hypocrite!

Ann says: Today I will fast from a critical spirit. Today I will confess my own sin before I crucify anyone else for theirs.

Judging others is so easy to fall into. I have found the best and easiest way to stay away from this is to keep my mouth shut. I was reading yesterday about how to tell if someone is wicked. It said they are arrogant and aggressive. It mentioned speech and that the wicked swear and boast and speak evil of others. So, I will work on keeping my mouth closed unless it is something useful to share with others.

Lent Week 5 Day 30

Today is a prayer about delivering us from fear. Yesterday Ann spoke of fear as being fraud. Fear is a tool of the enemy to get us to think we are alone in this and it’s all up to us. Fear is a lie! God is with us and knows what is going on in our lives. When we trust our God for the day ahead there is no fear. I learned that to experience courage I have to face fear. Sometimes fear can be a test of faith. I choose to face fear like David and say,  to fear, “You are coming to fight against me with a sword, a spear and a javelin. But I’m coming against you in the name of the Lord who rules over all. He is the God of the armies of Israel. He’s the one you have dared to fight against. 46 This day the Lord will give me the victory over you. I’ll strike you down. I’ll cut your head off.

Day 30

The scripture for today is Matthew 5:27-30 and Jesus is talking about the lust of the flesh. Whatever causes you to sin in your heart then remove it.

Ann says: Today I will think pure thoughts because I have been washed clean by pure grace.

We no longer have to give into sin now that we know the truth and the truth sets us free. We have the power through Jesus Christ to overcome our fleshly desires. God makes a way of escape, choose to walk in it. 1 Corinthians 10:13, 13 No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].

Lent Week 5 Day 29

Today’s reading is about fasting again! One more day after today on fasting! The writer is referring that Jesus talked at the Sermon on the Mount about giving, praying and fasting. He didn’t say “if” we do it but “when” we do it. When we give, when we pray, when we fast. He believes fasting is not an elective but part of the core teaching. This is something I know everyone has their own opinion on so I’m still saying what I’ve said before. Fasting is a personal decision. Jesus also said not to flaunt your giving, praying and fasting like the hypocrites do. It all should be done in secret. If we just listen to the Holy Spirit specifically for our own life and carry out what we hear I think God will be pleased. I just read something on Bible Gateway about living in the light. I think this applies here. We are to be living in the light which is following Jesus and listening to the Holy Spirit. When we disobey or quench the Spirit then it’s rebellion against God and He isn’t pleased. We shouldn’t get into comparing ourselves or our walk with what other people are doing. The writer mentions purpose comes first before fasting. I agree that there should be a purpose for fasting and if there is a specific purpose and you are being led because of it, then do it.

Day 29

Scripture reading for today is Psalm 118:1-9 and it’s dealing with fear. It’s saying not to fear because we know God is good and God is with us. No man can hurt us when God is for us.

Ann says: Today I will hold onto 4 words: God. Is. With. Us. Fast from fear because all fear is fraud.

My study with Ann today is something I needed TODAY! I had an extreme nightmare last night and woke up very afraid. I don’t know how I dreamt something so scary and evil. All I know is, is I was reminded of how evil really is. I refused to let it in my mind. I immediately prayed when I woke up and asked God to reveal to me what I could have done to crack the door that let evil in. I cast evil and fear out in Jesus’ name.
