Lent Week 7 Day 40

My reading today is a story about someone being in Easter and Christmas plays at school and how playing a peasant had an effect on her. She didn’t just play the role, she let the songs they sung penetrate her spirit and let them speak to her soul. She came to the realization that Jesus’ life that He offers is for EVERYONE! She saw that Jesus is the first to be resurrected and all of His followers will follow Him in resurrection also. And lastly she asks herself how is she denying self and being resurrected right now this Easter? I just read in my Not A Fan book that dying to self is putting Jesus first. He gave some interesting examples. It’s choosing Jesus over family and career goals. It’s choosing Jesus over getting drunk, over looking at porn. Choosing Jesus over a redecorated house. Choosing Jesus over what people think about you.

Day 40

The scripture reading for today is Romans 8:31-39 and it’s talking about how we cannot be separated from the love of God because of Jesus. We have it all in and through Jesus Christ.

Ann says: Today I will be astonished that because of Christ, hope rises from dead places, impossible stones can be rolled away, all the sad things are becoming undone.

What I ‘m learning is something can be known by head knowledge but it doesn’t become real and alive until it is heart knowledge. When the head knowledge makes a transfer to heart knowledge then we have our “A HA” moments. I read something the other day I never read before in the Bible. It says Jesus is the first to be raised which means we will follow. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22,  But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. We follow Him in life on earth, in death and in resurrection. It is finally in my heart that I really know death is an illusion. I won’t die, I will live! I’m beginning to see God’s Kingdom in my minds eye. I feel myself making the transfer. I heard John Bevere say yesterday, Jesus doesn’t want a dating relationship where you know things about that person. He wants a marriage relationship where you are intimate with each other and know everything about that person. This is what I want, what I choose, to be intimate with Jesus. To really be one of His and when I pass I want to be known for loving Jesus.  Everyone will know I went to be with Him.

Lent Week 7 Day 39

Today’s reading is a poem about thanksgiving for God’s love and goodness. Jesus comes from the tomb alive with hope and promise for us. He will come into your life when you accept His invitation. He will change you and give you new vision if you allow Him to. He gives us a sound mind, love and courage to face our days. He feeds our spirit and gives us joy. Thank you Jesus for all You have done and are doing and will do in the days to come.

Day 39

Scripture for today is Ezekiel 36:26 and Psalm 51:10. These verses refer to the heart. Praying to keep a clean heart and God promising to give us a heart of flesh.

Ann says: Today I will fast from a cold heart. Let myself be broken by the saving love of Jesus.

Lately I am learning that when I’m sick my patience are short and being irritable is so easy! I have been sick for a week and I have had some moments with people I wish hadn’t happened. Things I’ve said or the way I acted, wasn’t really me. Being sick has caused me to look at myself and not others. This is what sin does too. The sickness of sin causes us to focus on ourselves. You can look around and see everything is geared toward self. Everyone wanting attention about what they are doing. We are all infected with this sickness. Jesus came to cure us of our disease and change our focus. He taught us to be servants, not be served. When we only focus on ourselves it leads to a hard heart. When we realize what Jesus has done for us and how He looks at the world our heart begins to melt. When we ask Jesus to let us see things the way He does we are overwhelmed with His love. We can then give His love to other people. Sickness of sin leads to death but the healing love of Jesus brings life!

Lent Week 7 Day 38

Galatians 2:20,  I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

When we are born again our old self is crucified and we no longer live as before but we live with Jesus inside of us, guiding us. We live trusting in Jesus who loves us and gave Himself up for us. This verse makes me want to continuously thank Jesus for what He did. I want to thank God for salvation and for His love. I need to let myself be guided by the Holy Spirit daily. Trust Him! Thank you for salvation and for Jesus and thank you for loving me even when I was far from You.

Day 38

Scripture reading for today is Matthew 4:8-10 and its where Jesus is being tempted by Satan to bow down to him and he will give him the kingdoms of the world. Jesus said, “You must worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”

Ann says: Today I will thank Christ, adore Christ, bless Christ with my worship because worship is giving back to God what He’s breathed into us.

This temptation of Satan is one that he still does to us today. With all the worldly things out there to distract us and attract us away from wanting to know God and spend time with Him. It brings to mind the scripture about the seed falling where it gets choked out. The Word gets planted but the world prevents it from growing. Matthew 13:22,  And the one on whom seed was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the worries and distractions of the world and the deceitfulness [the superficial pleasures and delight] of riches choke the word, and it yields no fruit. This is what Satan tries to do to us once we are born again. He doesn’t want us to live out our salvation so he distracts us from it and attracts our flesh to worldly things. This prevents God’s Word from taking effect in our lives. We have to fight against this with the same scripture Jesus used. We MUST worship God and serve Him ONLY.

Lent Week 7 He Is Risen Day 37

My reading in the Mosaic Bible for today is talking about Easter and how it should cultivate a celebratory attitude within us. The miracle of the resurrection and its defeat over death. The sacred promise or the inherent saving grace the season represents. Lukewarm Christianity hardens the heart and all the commercialization. There was a word mentioned, Pascha. I looked it up and I was led to think about the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before Easter. Pascha means Passover. This is considered Holy Week right now. So I thought instead of just church on Sunday why not remember what Jesus did the days before and go back in time and meet Him there.

So, Thursday I will have communion, Friday I will make hot cross buns and watch The Ester Experience with Kyle Idleman, Saturday I will burn a white candle to symbolize the sinless Christ, the wick stands for humanity, and the flame stands for His divine nature. I will burn red incense, rest, read a devotion or watch more Easter Experience. Sunday I will put out purple potpourri  to represent Jesus as King with my candle and green incense for life! I will also watch Steven Furtick’s Easter sermon and celebrate Jesus’ resurrection! Because He is ALIVE, we will be ALIVE because we belong to Him! 1 Corinthians 15:22-23,  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

Lent to Repent Day 37

Scripture for today is Proverbs 14:30 and it’s talking about peace leads to health and jealousy is a cancer.

Ann says: Today I will fast from envy because envy is a crippling auto-immune disorder that attacks and weakens it’s own Body and devastates the Kingdom of God. Today I will practice the secret of contentment.

Learn to be content with the way things are and with what you have. This makes me think of my father-in-law the last months that he lived. He passed of two kinds of cancer but during his last months here he said to my husband that he didn’t need or want anything. He said, ” Isn’t that a good place to be? Not wanting or needing anything.” I have thought a lot about that statement. He also said when he looked at a flower that the flower was love. When we would see him he always asked how we were and never said anything about himself. He also told us God and Jesus were there and he was waiting. Jesus told him his ticket was punched and he just had to wait. Here is an epitaph I wrote for him.

Leroy is my name.
Trucking was my passion.
I trucked to be free.
Free to be me.
All I ever wanted was to be me.
Why are people so afraid of being who they are?
People would have you believe that I was troubled and hard hearted.
My family could tell you different.
I came to a truck stop in my life.
Everything put on hold.
This is where my life took a turn in the road to a higher highway.
This highway took me to God.
He told me I wasn’t a criminal, but someone who deserved
God’s seal of approval.
He showed me love in the simpleness of a flower.
He showed me that I was loving, giving and selfless toward others in
my darkest hour.
I ask you, how does a man actually know when he is going to die?
You know through the glow in your eye, with the transformation of becoming pure and real, then hearing God’s voice telling you it’s ok to come home.

Lent Week 6 Day 36

The reading today is talking about the day after Jesus was crucified and how empty and afraid it left the disciples, not to mention their grief. He says we go through the same emptiness and grief at some point in life whether we know Jesus or not. I don’t like to say following Jesus is a way of pain, sorrow and grief because even those who don’t follow experience these things because that’s just how it is in a fallen world. The difference in following Jesus is there is hope at the end of the suffering. If you aren’t a follower, you don’t have hope. There is nowhere to turn. Eventually we find out we aren’t in control of this world. We will be put in a position to see we need Jesus. If you still deny Him, you really have no hope. But the good news to followers is we have hope that there are new mercies every morning and He will make beauty out of our ashes.

Isaiah 61:3, To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.”

Lamentations 3:22-23, The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;[a]
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

Day 36

Scripture for today is 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 and it’s talking about giving. What we sow is what we will get back. We have to give willingly and with a cheerful heart. It has to be what we feel good about giving and God will honor what we give.

Ann says: Today I will crush greed because I’ve been shattered by amazing grace and that abundance is meant to be given.

We should be cheerful givers or don’t give at all. When our giving is done with a grudge it isn’t really giving. To give is not to expect anything in return. We shouldn’t give so we get more from God. We give because we sincerely want to help someone otherwise it’s not giving at all and it’s done in vain. When I give I want it to be real and sincere because when I do God is glorified!

Lent Week 6 Day 35

My readings for today are about hope in this moment and hope to come when we will be face to face with Jesus one day. Jesus gives us hope for now in this life by walking with us day by day and we have hope to be with Him in the New Earth because the Bible tells us so. With our hope being in Jesus we can not fail and we have nothing to fear. This reminds me of the Christmas song Winter Wonderland when it says: ” to face UNAFRAID the plans that we made, walking in a winter wonderland.” We are unafraid when we know we are walking in the plans God has made for our lives. We are walking in His wonderland with Him by our side and there is nothing to be afraid of.

Day 35

Scripture for today is Matthew 7:1-5 and it’s telling us to not judge others. We are all the same in God’s eyes. Don’t be a hypocrite!

Ann says: Today I will fast from a critical spirit. Today I will confess my own sin before I crucify anyone else for theirs.

Judging others is so easy to fall into. I have found the best and easiest way to stay away from this is to keep my mouth shut. I was reading yesterday about how to tell if someone is wicked. It said they are arrogant and aggressive. It mentioned speech and that the wicked swear and boast and speak evil of others. So, I will work on keeping my mouth closed unless it is something useful to share with others.

Lent Week 6 Day 34

Philippians 2: 6-8, who, although He existed in the form and unchanging essence of God [as One with Him, possessing the fullness of all the divine attributes—the entire nature of deity], did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped or asserted [as if He did not already possess it, or was afraid of losing it]; but emptied Himself [without renouncing or diminishing His deity, but only temporarily giving up the outward expression of divine equality and His rightful dignity] by assuming the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men [He became completely human but was without sin, being fully God and fully man]. After He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely-appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Jesus didn’t think highly of Himself even though He had every right to. He was humble and serving. He put Himself to the lowest point of dying a criminal’s death on a cross. He obeyed God no matter where it took Him.

I should never think of myself as better than anyone or that I have more spiritual knowledge than someone else. I should focus only on my relationship with God and with others. Love God, obey God, love others, serve others.

Help me to remember this “code” to live by. Jesus said to love God with all my heart and mind and to love others, this sums up all the commandments. Help me to do this and to obey You always.

Lent to Repent

Day 34

Scripture for today is Philippians 4: 6-7 and its talking about prayer. To pray always about everything. Don’t worry and always think on things above.

Ann says: Today I will make hard stops to truly pray because prayer is more of a priority than food because the soul is more of a priority than the body.

Prayer is something I know “works” but also I am finding prayer is what keeps me connected to God. Through the practice of counting God’s gifts it is a form of prayer because I am thanking Him for my life continually. Doing this enables me to pray without ceasing like the Bible says to do. I have also learned that by learning scripture it enriches my prayers and my prayer life. When I know God’s character and what He wants from me then my prayers are more meaningful. I ‘m learning that prayer isn’t asking for things but just asking to be in God’s presence. Something funny but true I learned from the movie Bruce Almighty is that a prayer focused on self isn’t really a prayer.  A prayer becomes alive and powerful when it’s about God and others.

Psalm 22:6-8,

But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
    “let the Lord rescue him.
Let him deliver him,
    since he delights in him.”

This psalmist is feeling pretty low and bad about himself. He feels small like a worm and feels like God is faraway. People make fun of him and say if God is for him then why doesn’t it show. What I’m getting from this passage is not to have self pity and feel sorry for myself. God will show up when I accept my circumstances, be thankful for my life and always worship and praise God. Prayer: Help me God to always have a good and thankful attitude. I will praise and thank You always because You are good and You will never leave me! Thank you, Amen.

Day 33

Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 2:1-3, 21-25. It is talking about how we should cease from all deceit, insincerity, evil speaking. We should crave to know God’s ways because we have tasted the goodness of God. Jesus has shown us how to live and is our example to follow. He died for us to die to sin and live upright. We used to be going astray and now we are back with the Shepherd.

Ann says: Today I pray that the shape of my day will look like the cross in every way.

I was thinking about what Ann said the shape of my day being the shape of the cross and I pictured something. The vertical beam of the cross represents our relationship with God and the horizontal beam is our relationship with people. So to live a cross life is to have fellowship with God, worship and praise Him, then bring that light and love to others.

Lent Week 6 Day 32

My reading today speaks in reference to the dark period we face before our salvation. I can relate to this! The writer says God waits for us to realize that we need Him. We go through painful dark times to bring us to the end of ourselves and begin to hope in God. When we begin searching for Him, we find Him and all darkness that was before is forgotten and is put out by God’s magnificent light!

Lent to Repent

Day 32

Scripture today is 1 Peter 4:1-10 and it’s talking about now that you are saved live like you are saved. Don’t partake in what the world does. Stand out in the crowd and live by spirit like God does.

Ann says: Today I will fast from serving me most and serve others first.

In 1 Peter 4:1-10 it tells specifically of how to live like a christian. Be hospitable, live by the spirit, love one another, keep a sound mind, have self control and use the gifts God gave you to serve others. This is how we live in God’s light. We follow Jesus by doing these things. 1 John 1:7, But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Ephesians 5:1-20,

Living in the Light

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us[a] and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. Don’t participate in the things these people do. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.

10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. 11 Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. 12 It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.13 But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them,14 for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said,

“Awake, O sleeper,
    rise up from the dead,
and Christ will give you light.”

Living by the Spirit’s Power

15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lent Week 6 Hope Day 31

Hope is described as an expectation, a desire for fulfillment. Our hope should only be in God because God is the only one who can fulfill our desires and meet our expectations. Nothing can compare to being with God and with God all things are possible!

Day 31

The scripture reading for today is Colossians 3: 1-5, and it’s talking about being made new in Jesus Christ and living the resurrected life. He says to keep your thoughts on things above. Your real life is hidden in Christ.

Ann says: Today I will hunger for less good things so that I do not ruin my appetite for God.

When our hope is really in God and not in ourselves or others we are never disappointed. As I read further in Colossians it says that to have sensual appetites, unholy desires, greed and covetousness is idolatry. If we get more pleasure from these things instead of God, He considers this sin and its living in opposition to His will. We should be looking to renew our minds to His will, have hope in Him, the Creator, and He will take care of everything as we live out our salvation. God is faithful  to help us be the way He created us to be. The Holy Spirit will work inside of us.
